The track sees her distinctive sound taking a darker and heavier turn
A fiercely exciting UK artist who’s sound often traverses through the worlds of indie rock and alternative pop, SOFY is a musical shapeshifter who is seamlessly capable of evoking a range of styles and emotions through her forward-thinking sound, and her new single ‘Wishbone’ feels as razor-sharp and piercing as anything she has released to date.
The new single has a dynamic and acerbic edge to it throughout, utilising an atmospheric alternative rock sound to explore themes like ambition and the toll that it can take on you as you try to claw your way towards successes that may never even emerge on the horizon. The impassioned and committed nature of her vocal performance and the intensity of the rugged instrumentation do a great job of showcasing a harsher and more hard-hitting side of her sound that mirrors these feelings, and it adds a whole new dimension to the artist and her ever-expanding style.
“It’s about loving something that doesn’t love you back, chasing a carrot on a stick until it completely unravels you to the point of losing your head.” SOFY states of the tune. She continues, sharing that the tune was “one of the first songs we wrote when we started working on this new era of music and setting the tone for the project, so it really captures the raw feeling I had at the time. Musically it’s a bit of a jump away from stuff you’ve heard from me before. It’s quite dark, so it feels like a bit of a statement.”
