Emerging Exeter outfit Soot Sprite have established themselves as a steady presence in the UK music scene, with their shoegazy indie rock sound winning them adoration over the last few years, as well as the lush vocals of singer and guitarist Elise Cook.

The latest release from the outfit is their new single ‘Lazy’, an emphatic clap back at the perceieved “laziness” that the younger generation have and aren’t willing to work as hard or graft like the people that came before them. The track does a really nice job of articulating this point, in spite of the more affable and agreeable nature of the sound when compared these the more confrontational lyrics. ‘Lazy’ is an anthem for a generation that have been forced to just smile and carry on while everything seems to fall apart around them and get perpetually worse, and the track’s innate catchiness and astute social relevance makes for a really fun and relatable listen.

“Lazy is about the exasperation many of us are feeling about our generation being constantly blamed for not being able to thrive in the current climate. We’re constantly in the firing line for buying too many coffees or smashed avocado and that’s why we’re not able to afford our own homes or have any kind of security, instead of the increasing amount of real factors that have piled up”
