The track is the first single from the artists upcoming debut album The Dark.
While ‘Graduation’ is often seen as a place of achievement and accomplishment, happiness and relief, Stevie Jean‘s new single sees the work take on a whole other meaning.
“In Highschool, I watched my friends graduate from fun drugs to harder substances.” The artist says of the track. “The irony is that some of them didn’t live to actually graduate for one reason or anything. Rest In Peace Rhys S, Rhys W and my darling Ruby. Some stars burn too bright to live on a mere planet.”
The track carries a gravity and real sense of depth with it, weighed down by the all-encompassing message that it carries. There is a darkness that follows Stevie’s incredible impassioned and powerful vocal performance. ‘Graduation’ is a look at the other side of growing up, the hardships and the struggles and the innocence lost to addictions. How the cheap thrills we find for fun can cross a line and become something completely different all together. It is spellbinding, it is emotional, and it showcases Stevie Jean as a powerful artist that is capable at pushing and pulling at your heartstrings with her delicate storytelling and gritty, memorable vocals.
