With current and former members of bands like It Prevails and American Me in their ranks, there was always going to be a degree of hype that surrounded Unarmed from the offset, and following the release of their debut EP It’s Like That, it doesn’t really seem like the buzz around Portland post-hardcore outfit will be dying down anytime soon.
A focus track from the release is the new single ‘Home’, an energetic and cathartic journey that showcases everything that the band are about. From the indelible, melodic nature of their sound, to its similarly potent sense of heaviness and bite, the track feels like exactly what Unarmed are, a love letter to the scene that these friends have been immersed in for so long. Boasting influences around post-hardcore and adjacent heavy genres, the band have adopted a forward-thinking, modern approach to their sound that feels expansive and fresh while holding onto their post-hardcore roots. Above all of these factors though, there is a really palpable sense of fun that radiates from the band and their sound, and it shines through throughout the release.
