A ceramic arts class may feel like an inconspicuous and low key affair, also marks the birthplace of Oxford’s BE GOOD, a young and exciting band who have been gradually building steam over the last few years with their thoughtful and often poignant indie pop sound.
New EP Everything’s Alright In The Evening serves as just the latest example of a band approaching the peak of their powers, and as part of our collaboration with our good friends at CloseUp, we got better acquainted with the outfit and as up close as you can while living in a horrifying dystopia that confines you to your own home.
BE GOOD! It’s great to have a proper chat. We’re long time massive fans of your music as you well know. Tell us a bit more about the band, and how you guys formed?
Charlie and I went to the same school but didn’t know each other very well. We ended up reconnecting after meeting years later at a ceramics evening class. We bonded over shared music tastes and decided to move into a house together in Oxford and start recording some songs. Eventually we found Patch and James through various friends and chance connections to complete the band. We aim to make ambitious pop music but through a warped prism of suburban detachment.

Frank Ocean, Sade, Paul Simon.
We for one are absolutely missing live shows/festivals more than ever though. What does a BE GOOD live show usually bring? We can’t wait for your LDN headline to finally happen?
I want our live shows to feel like a 2am karaoke performance in the back room of a pub with all your friends, where it’s a bit rowdy but also you feel like you might cry. Our London headline is going to be a really special night where we’ll be able to celebrate everything that went into making the EP. It’ll feel like a real party when it finally happens and we can’t wait.
An oh so generic question, but let’s end on a classic. What does 2021 have in store? Festivals/shows/new music?! Tell us all you can!
We’re so happy to have finally released our new EP Everything’s Alright in the Evening so we’re enjoying hearing how people are responding to the songs and interpreting them in different ways. I bought a video camera from a bloke in a carpark, so we’ve got some fun visuals and other surprises related to the EP coming out soon too. Looking forward to getting out and doing some touring and meeting people face to face again, but in the meantime we’re working on plenty of new music. I want our next songs to really be ruthlessly stripped down to the essential elements.
