Since 2019, London’s The Valla have been establishing themselves as a real force in the UK pop-rock scene, with a slew of releases establishing their cutting edge, but melodic and polished sound. Their latest single ‘Strawberry’ is the third from their upcoming new EP Misfits, and showcases this softer side to their sound when compared to tracks such as the titular one from the EP.
There is an anthemic quality to the ‘Strawberry’, packed full of empowering lyrics about rebuilding and pulling yourself back together that you could imagine fans shouting back at the band, arm in arm. There are hard-hitting moments but these are set to a melodic backdrop that feels both rousing and accessible, creating the kind of sound that you could imagine both on festival stages and daytime radio. The Valla have done a great job of establishing a sound that feels as home within heartfelt tracks like this as it does riffy indie rock bangers, and their new EP looks set to be the outfit’s most complete and realised vision for their sound to date.
