The track is from the artist’s forthcoming new EP Felix Culpa.
Seattle-based singer-songwriter Seiichi has built up an ardent following over the last two years thanks to his thoughtful and emotive sound, and looks to provide his most complete and fully-formed body of work to date with the upcoming release of his debut EP Felix Culpa.
The first release to come from the EP is ‘Excuses’, a heartfelt track about trying to avoid breaking up with someone in order to not cause hurt or pain for the other person. There is a real sense of anguish and regret in the otherwise laid-back feel of the sound, and the track really drives home the relatable resonance that Seiichi and his sound possess. ‘Excuses’ has a lush soundscape and a gorgeous feel to the sound, the narrative adds a real sense of gravity and melancholy sadness to the overall feel of it.
As Seiichi puts it, “Ultimately, the speaker wants to avoid hurting their partner, so, in weakness, they find a reason to stay in the relationship just as they have every other time the thought has risen, knowing, but ignoring the truth that sticking around for the wrong reasons is the most damaging thing they could possibly do.”
