Putting a brighter spin on a tumultuous 2020, Silk Cinema share the understated indie pop of new single ‘Upside Down’.
Following this year’s earlier releases ‘I’m Found’ and ‘Sticking With You’, the London-based duo – comprised of vocalist Kristy X and instrumentalist Ralph A – dial down their retro-inflected disco sound for a more intimate moment.
With their music having previously been described as “Sade in space”, it is a phrase that feels apt with their latest track. Minimal beats and light synth work show a band working with confidence, whilst the coursing bass provides a moving, funk edge. Inspired by the turmoil of 2020, Silk Cinema look to give listeners a brief respite from the world.
“Think we’ve all been feeling a bit upside down lately,” share the band. “The world is changing and taking a minute to breathe from this fast paced world we live in, might not be a bad thing! ‘Upside down’ was written in hope to bring a bit of joy during these hard times”.
