Our partnership with CloseUp has this week led us to Scandinavian sensation SVEA
Our CLOUT x CloseUp journey has taken us in a plethora of different directions showcasing some of the most exciting and diverse sounds in emerging music, and today sees us with effortlessly catchy Swedish pop singer-songwriter SVEA.
Over the past few years the young artist has been establishing herself and her sound with a seemingly endless conveyor-belt of impactful, memorable tunes and an emphatic and head-turning live show. At a time where things seem still feel steeped with uncertainty, we chatted with SVEA and found out a bit more about the artist and where she is at.
SVEA! It’s great to sit down and have a proper chat (Kinda). We’re such big fans of your music as you well know. Tell the world a bit about the musical world of SVEA?
You too!! Thank you so much. Well, I’m SVEA and I’m 21 years old. I grew up in Stockholm, Sweden and I’ve been working with music now for the past few years. I love writing songs and let people get to know me through my music. I’ve always been listening to RnB and soul but when I started writing music a couple of years back, I didn’t think so much about what genre it is. I guess people would call it pop, and I love pop. I love trying out different things and I don’t wanna feel stuck in a box, so one day I can be writing the most sassy pop song you could imagine, the other day I could be way more vulnerable pouring my heart out in a ballad. I just released my EP ‘Pity Party’ with different sounds and lyrics but it’s basically a more raw and honest bodywork I’m really proud of.
The last 12 months has been such a crazy year for musicians, how much has it had an impact on your music?
It really has! Of course all my live shows got cancelled which has been really sad since it’s my favorite part about being an artist – to perform. But I really got time to be in the studio more and I released so many songs (which I probably hadn’t had if it wasn’t for the pandemic)! I aslo had a lot of free time to just think back on the past few years and what I want to do to move forward.
We for one are absolutely missing live shows/festivals more than ever thought. If you were to create an ‘SVEA Festival’ then WHO would be your 3 headliners? (and can we come?)
Omg that would be amazing! Of course you can come!!! How big can I dream? If I can pick whoever I want to it would be Rihanna, Kehlani and Robyn I think. Three of my biggest inspirations for sure!
What are SVEA’S plans for 2021? Fill us in with all the info you can!
I will write music, record, rehears and connect with my fans in every way that I can this year!
We’re still in an uncertain time and I don’t dare to feel confident about big tours or travels, but London will be the first proper show in such a long time and if everything is going well I will be doing shows in the Nordics as well. I’m also planning for a safe getaway-writing-camp with some of my favourite writers and producers as well. We’ll be out in a big house by the water, writing music, eat food and hang out all day and night. Doesn’t it sound cozy? I know it’ll be amazing.
Are you excited to come back to London? We can’t wait to host you at Colours, this September! What does a SVEA live show have in store!
If I am?! I can’t wait! It’s gonna be amazing, I’m gonna bring my band and we’re gonna play our favorite songs of mine. I’ve also started taking dance classes again (with high heels, watch out) so I’ll also bring some new moves with me. All I can say is that we’re gonna have such a good time together and I hope the audience is ready for a show they’ve never seen from me before!
