Who TF is Ivy Ash?

We had a chat with emerging UK electro-pop upstart Ivy Ash following the release of her new single ‘You, Not Me’

UK electro-pop upstart Ivy Ash has wasted no time establishing herself as an artist with a penchant for crafting inescapably catchy tunes that are often empowering, effortlessly cool and uncompromisingly fierce.

The latest release from the artist is ‘You, Not Me’, a track that emphasises all three of those descriptions of her sound, as the artist defiantly encourages herself and others to be unreservedly, unapolgetically themselves. Sonically, the track is a complete riot, with a pulsating, energetic electronic soundscape meeting her personality-drenched, charismatic vocals to make for one of the more stirring and empowering releases in recent memory. Ivy Ash is a truly exciting emerging talent who is still in her formative stages as an artist, we believe that the ceiling for her potential is huge, and caught up with Ivy to find out some more about her background and what she has planned for the future.

Who TF is Ivy Ash?

I’m a songwriter/artist based in the Midlands, UK. I’m obsessed with pop music, cats (I’m a Devon Rex crazy cat lady) and fashion. I’m also studying Music Business at BIMM in Birmingham, just about to enter my third year! @ivyashmusic on all socials.

How long have you been making music?

I started quite late actually, I’ve been making music since 2018, so it’s only been around 4 years since I put pen to paper and wrote my first “proper” song, but I’ve been singing and performing since I was little. It’s something I love so much, I can’t imagine not having singing and songwriting in my life anymore.

Why do you make music?

Music is therapy for me. It’s a way of expressing myself, letting all my emotions out and relating to others. Sometimes it makes me happy, sometimes it makes me sad, but it’s always as creative as hell and makes me learn something new about myself.

What are your biggest influences?

I always dislike this question, sorry! There’s influence all around me (so many great people, it’s so hard to choose!) and what influences me depends on what mood I’m in, what day it is, how I’m feeling etc etc. I’d love to know what the listeners think of my music and what artists/influence they can hear within my tracks J

What would you say has been your best moment so far?

There’s been a lot that I’m proud of, but creating artistry that means a lot to me (and others can relate to and love) ticks a massive box. That feels amazing every time.

How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?

Sassy, self-confident electronic pop music with an empowering and upbeat vibe.

What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?

Not had it yet – I’ll let you know when I do!

We love your new release ‘You, Not Me’, what more can you tell us about it?

This is a song all about being unapologetically yourself, learning to love who you are and if people aren’t on board with that, they know where to go! For me, the lyrics within this song say it all, especially the pre-chorus “You won’t tame me, don’t try to change me, because I am who I am and if you don’t understand that’s on you, not me.”

What else do you have planned for the near future?

I’ve had a few festival performances including Leamington Art in the Park and Warwickshire Pride 2022 which was amazing! I’m looking forward to hopefully releasing another track before the end of the year, and getting back in the studio to write and record more material. I’m also going to be starting my third and final year of music biz studies at BIMM in Birmingham.

And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?

Myself! Self-care is so important, you got to cheer yourself on and celebrate your wins whenever they happen, no matter how little. That motivation and self-belief is what gets me up in the morning. Long may it continue!
