Who TF is Meg Smith?
Hi I’m Meg 🙂 I’m an indie pop artist from Brooklyn. I make music that sounds like an early 00s rom com soundtrack!
How long have you been making music?
I started writing songs when I was about 12— then started playing shows at coffee shops around LA when I was 14.
Why do you make music?
It’s the only way I know how to work through my feelings. And at this point, it feels like breathing.
What are your biggest influences?
Right now, I’ve been influenced a lot by the music of my childhood: Hannah Montana, The Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Hillary Duff. It’s been fun to revisit those songs now that I’m an adult.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
Probably when my song ‘Cross My Heart I Hope U Die’ hit 3 million streams on Spotify. That was actually insane.
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
My music sounds like you’re watching an early 00s rom com. It’s dreamy, and nostalgic, and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
Definitely headlining my own tour. Especially if it was overseas in Europe or Asia.
We love your new single ‘Fuck Friday’, what more can you tell us about it?
I wrote ‘Fuck Friday’ about being the only single one out of all my friends. Seriously. It was embarrassing. I would go to parties and my friends would try to set me up with the only other single person there. It’s frustrating and lonely to look around and only see couples.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
I have a ton of new music ready to come out and I really want to play more shows around the east coast. This new music is the best music I’ve ever made and I can’t wait for people to hear it!
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
Probably my sister. She’s always been my biggest fan, screaming in the audience even if she’s the only one there.
