Exciting math-pop trio FES are an outfit that seem to have mastered the beauty and the beast juxtaposition razor-sharp riffs and sickly catchy melodies, evoking the same kind of feel as some of the early work of UK contemporaries Orchards, albeit with perhaps a bit more of a penchant for chaos on FES’ end.
Latest release ‘Sun Visor’ is a wonderful example of all of the extremes of their sound coming together. Starting out with a bouncing riff that wouldn’t feel out of place on a The Fall of Troy track, the track just continues to mutate and develop as it progresses, unable to stay still. The sound just grows and grows, with each passage as memorable and catchy as the last. FES bring chaos and charm in equal measure on their latest release, and have arguably never sounded better or more exciting.
