The track is the self-produced artist’s fourth single of a stellar 2023.
His off-kilter and creative self-produced sound has given rising artist Garvie a really distinctive appeal since his first release back in 2021, with the artist’s charismatic appeal and catchy sound providing him with tone of memorable releases that highlight his pop sensibilities and forward-thinking production.
The latest of which is ‘So High’, an earworm of a track that surrounds that idea of diving into new experiences too quickly. The irreverent and fun nature of the soundscape captures your attention instantly, with the artist’s funk bass and chiptune synths meshing wonderfully with his falsetto vocals, making for a vibrant and engrossing appeal that is packed full of charm and life. While the artist insists that the narrative is a double-edged sword that can prove either exciting or realising that you’ve got yourself in over your head, the nature of the sound ensures that listeners will find the track engaging and optimistic in a really carefree kind of way.
“The song has an obvious double meaning which no-one needs explaining, but I promise it’s about more than that!” Garvie protests. “It’s also about dependency of a different kind – I’m a very ‘all-in’ kind of person and tend to commit way too much to new things in life really quickly. This song is about the ‘oh shit’ moment you realise that you’re already fully committed to something and it’s too late to back out. Sometimes that’s a liberating feeling. And sometimes it’s really not.”
