In the stunning sequel to the band’s lauded 2017 single ”Air, Pt. 1′, Lycio showcase their continued innovation and charm as an outfit, not just continuing the story of the previous track but highlight how much they have grown as a band, emerging as a much more fierce, much grittier and and more groove-laden outfit than ever.
‘Air, Pt. 2’, is everything that makes Lycio feel special and different, from its off-kilter, expansive rhythms to the improbably sense of scope and variety that is packed into the vocals of Genie Mendez. The new release feels all-encompassing and broad in its ambition and sense of drive but remains as melodic and accessible as ever, truly heralding the immense capabilities and charms of the Midlands band.
“I can’t say there’s any one meaning behind the lyrics.” Genie says of the track. “There are definitely some parts I can recall being about my constant anxiety that the world is going to end at any given second. A lot of the lyrics for this song were actually originally written for our first release, Air 1. But it was way too long so we jammed with the best parts and created something new. And after seven years, we can FINALLY bring to the world, the long awaited, Air Part 2.”
