Lycio tell a tale of unrequited love in new effort ‘Somebody’

Taking the pain of unrequited love, but building it into a strong, empowering tune that is sure to be a comfort to many.

Bandmate goals.

‘Somebody’ is the brand new effort from Birmingham alt-pop trio, Lycio.

Full of distorted synths and powerful vocals that push the track forward as both the rhythm and Genie’s vocals build toward a climatic chorus. The result is an emotive track that shows them at their most vulnerable. Taking the pain of unrequited love, but building it into a strong, empowering tune that is sure to be a comfort to many.

Speaking about the track, vocalist Genie Mendez explains, “I actually thought I’d try a different lyrical approach with this song. I’m rarely one to write about romance and our songs are usually entangled with expressions of my own mental health. So to have such a lyrically open chorus where I’m so clearly talking about unrequited love is definitely a first for us. Although I’ve still kept the verses dark and mysterious, this song is definitely about wanting someone so bad but them not quite wanting you back.”

That’s not all, you’re gonna love this bit. Although the track, written by Genie, is about unrequited love. Alex pulled the video together full of self-filmed footage from the past three years from their time together as a band to show that Genie has love from many others in her life. How cute is that?!
