Arkansas outfit Modeling draw inspiration from romance and 1980s horror in their striking new single ‘Lodestone’. The new track is taken from their forthcoming EP.

Taking influence from the likes of It Follows, Blade Runner and Drive, ‘Lodestone’ conjures thoughts of childhood nostalgia and is an arresting cinematic soundscape that could easily be plucked from the decade of where it has taken influence. Succinct beats bring urgency to the otherwise dreamy atmosphere, as bright synth tones chime and wash over the lovelorn piece. Accompanied by a cyclical melody and catchy vocal hook, the story of ‘Lodestone’ is a mantra of unravelling union.

“‘Lodestone’ is a song about two people who fell in love and fell out of it,” share Modeling of their new single. “The music parallels the beginning, middle and end of a very specific relationship. Chaotic, dramatic and intense in the beginning, but then transforms into something very dreamlike and isolated, ignoring all the noise that came before.

“It’s much like when you fall in love and you forget what’s going on around you,” they continue. “The outside world doesn’t exist because you’re solely focused on this one thing. It’s like having tunnel vision. But then at some point the dream ends and you have to come back to reality.”

‘Lodestone’ is available now.
