Surf-indie trio Dutch Criminal Record reveal latest gem ‘Hey Charlie’
Ahead of their highly anticipated EP ‘It’s Gonna Be Okay’, ‘Hey Charlie’ is the latest adventure from Portsmouth based band Dutch Criminal Record.
Receiving praise from Wonderland, CLASH, Atwood Magazine, EARMILK and BBC 6 Music, the glistening collective have also turned heads on TikTok.
Filmed, directed and edited on Super 8 by Hugoe Esposti, Harry Tomlin and Ed Swift, the synth-led, guitar-heavy single hears the incredible band take their songwriting to the next level.
Speaking of ‘Hey Charlie’ Joe explains, “I wrote Hey Charlie for a fan who pre-saved one of our singles last year, doing this thing on our Instagram where if you pre-saved our single I’d write you a song and post it.
So I wrote the first verse for a fan called Charlie and as soon as I’d posted it I thought “damn that’s actually pretty good!” so I decided to make a song out of it. I wrote the lyrics later on in the year, they’re about feeling nostalgic for the first lockdown in March where I didn’t feel any pressure to be productive.
The Character Charlie represents my procrastination (kind of like a devil on my shoulder kinda thing), I thought that was a kinda cool way to adapt that lyric from the song I originally wrote for our fan on Instagram.”
Visually, the music video sees the band perform the addictive single in a park on a glorious summer day.
Bathed in feel-good vibes, this heated offering is a real contender in the industry.
Dutch Criminal Record are about to become overnight stars.
