Now a well established band in the UK and particularly London indie rock scenes, Sad Boys Club are no stranger to writing pop-tinged bops that are packed full of both substance and style, and their latest release ‘Ignorance Is Bliss (Haven’t You Heard?)’ is no exception.

The track, produced by the band’s bassist Pedro Caetano, has a buoyant feel from its outset, as the outfit serves as a rallying cry against cynicism and negativity. There are the usual infectious melodies on display, and even a cathartic clash of guitars and drums as the track reaches its climax. The track is more vintage Sad Boys Club, painting their unique soundscape and washing it in affable melodies and an infectious sense of danceable indie rock fun.

“It was a song that had a re-birth,” singer Jacob Wheldon notes, going on to say: “There’s a sweetness about the track that for a while made us all a bit uneasy, it was a bit saccharine and it nearly found itself into Tom’s “SBC graveyard” iTunes folder but I wanted to find a way to contextualise that sweetness to make it a little eerie and fucked up. I like it when earworms unknowingly carry a bit of malice in them, I guess it’s our Pumped Up Kicks. The ‘I’m Not Afraid…’ EP was very dark and came out of covid and all of that bollocks, it’s been nice returning to live shows, so it was important to come with something with some spice and sass in time for sad boy summer.”
