There is an underlying sadness and real sense of gravity to the melodic new release.
While on the surface, latest Soapbox Sound release ‘Mr. Sanji’ is a jovial and melodic track full of catchy hooks and a feelgood sense of joy, the reality is a little bit more sinister.
Lyrically, the track is about a family man about to relapse, looking for a drug dealer, the titular ‘Mr. Sanji’, meeting another addict, and the rationalization that takes place within his mind to justify this regretful act. There are a plethora of twists and turns in the unpredictable track, and it really feels like the track really unfolds and opens up for you the further you dive into the narrative and the lyrics. The track manages to effortlessly balance this sense of insatiable fun and unthinkable darkness in a way that honestly feels quite unsettling in its jovial nature. A really fun, thought provoking new release that leaves a lasting impression.
