Having made an emphatic return back in April with the release of ‘Scabs’, Speedy Ortiz have been reminding us of why their energetic alternative rock sound is so lauded and revered with a stellar collection of new releases that highlight how the Philadelphia band truly haven’t lost a step in their five years away.
The latest of these is new single ‘Ghostwriter’, a track that is about anger, or at least directing your anger and frustration in more constructive and positive ways. Their effortlessly melodic and catchy sound explores themes like the death of our climate and the criminalisation of anybody trying to do anything about it and trying to come to terms with it in a more productive way, with the track’s infectious sound belying the seriousness of the lyrics. All in all, this makes for a track that feels as interesting as it does impossibly catchy, melding seriousness with fun in a way that feels packed full of substance and style in equal measure.
