Indie pop artist and TikTok star Taylor Roche is somebody who has consistently showcased a fun personality and immersive appeal that earned him tonnes of acclaim and reverence over the last few years, buoyed by a multi-faceted and engrossing sound that continues to demonstrate his prowess as an artist.

On new single ‘costume party’, the Auckland based artist shows off a vulnerable and introspective side to his sound, as he explores our flawed human instinct to compare ourselves and our success to other people. This is a subject matter that will resonate with a lot of listeners out there, and the gravity and emotional resonance of the sound and his thoughtfully articulated vocals make for a stirring listen throughout. His spacious, engrossing soundscape and soft vocal style give the sound a really powerful charm that really sells the message and purpose of the track through its subtlety and nuance, and continues to highlight the charismatic edge that makes the artist feel so special.

“I was actually listening to a song called “hiccup” by a really cool Canadian band called Valley, and “costume party” is in the lyrics.” Taylor says of the track. “I kind of latched on to that idea as a metaphor and brought it into the studio the next day.”
