The great thing about music is the endless score there is for creativity and reinvention. With new sounds coming along and changing the way that we think about and write music, with it comes the ability to meld this sensibilities with sounds of the past, in order to create something that feels familiar yet raw and cutting edge.

The Mayblues are an outfit that have a finger on the pulse of these ideas. Their unique cocktail of contemporary alternative rock, informed by a darker, more 90s influenced grunge sound, the band seem to have almost bridged a gap between 30 years ago and now. Latest single ‘Love Misplaced’ is a shining example of that. With the obvious comparisons to acts like Nirvana aside, The Mayblues look to build off that sound with an unmatched level of explosiveness and volatility. The track is a deep and tortured look back at a failed relationship, and the music reflects this uncompromisingly.

To put it in the words of frontman Chris Im, “this song means a lot to me because it’s about a relationship that had more than enough substance for an album that I distilled down to a single track”. He goes on to state that “relationships that end due to circumstances while both people are in love can be the most haunting—no closure, and constantly wondering if things could’ve been different”.
