The last act including a female member to perform on the Reading and Leeds Festival main stage was Hayley Williams in Paramore in 2014. The Nashville pop-punks co-headlined with Queens of the Stone Age, who will also be headlining the 2021 festival.

Prior to that, The White Stripes headlined in 2004 with Meg White on drums. The last female-fronted headline act in their own right was Garbage in 1998.

2021’s headliners have been announced as Stormzy and Liam Gallagher – both of whom were set to headline this year’s festival pre-COVID-19 restrictions – 2019 co-headliner Post Malone, 2016 headliner Disclosure and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Clout favourites 100 Gecs, Ashnikko, Fever 333, Beabadoobee and Sofi Tukker have also been confirmed.

Tickets for Reading Festival and Leeds Festival will go on general sale on Thursday 3rd September at 9am.
