The track is from their upcoming new 2025 LP Disappointment Machine
Having established themselves as a nuanced and thoughtful duo who’s sound often takes listeners to compelling and memorable places, Arliston are a band who continuously exceed expectations through their sound, with the releases in the lead up to their upcoming new album Disappointment Machine shaping the release to be their best collection of tracks to date.
The latest single from the collection of tracks is ‘What Did I Think Would Happen’, the opening track from the LP and a soberingly intimate exploration of an unrequited love that feels instantly stirring and moving. There is a rawness both to the instrumental and the vocals that accentuates these feelings of vulnerability expressed through the narrative, making for a release that many listeners will find solace in thanks to how honest and real it feels throughout and the relatability that the duo nail so well.
“This is one of my favourite songs on the album. We captured something that was very raw and at the same time feels gentle and intimate. It’s one of the hardest things to do: capture a strong emotion without screaming and shouting. But, with this one we managed to very lightly hold this poignant thing in the palm of the hand and express it with not much more than a whisper,” Jack shares.
