The Flaming Lips to perform concerts with audience members in big bouncy bubbles

As an alternative to socially distanced gigs, The Flaming Lips are planning a hometown show in Oklahoma City which will include each audience member inside their own giant bubble!

The band have utilised these zorbs before, with frontman Wayne Coyne performing and crowd-surfingrolling in one, and more recently with all the band in separate bubbles for their performance on Fallon and a test run of this new idea on Colbert. Watch both below.

Coyne told Brooklyn vegan about the plan to play the 4,000 people/100 bubble capacity venue, saying three people could fit in the bubbles. “You fill them up and people can be in them for quite a while. I don’t think people quite realize that. Since we have some here, we’ve played with them and messed with them for quite a while. I mean, even back in 2006, I would get in one of the space bubbles at the end of our big Halloween parade here, and I would walk down the street for almost an hour in one. Yeah. You know what I mean? It holds a lot of air. I mean, you can be in there for quite a while.”

Check out Coyne’s recent Instagram post below, showing the venue.
